Strong. Sustainable. Stable.
INFRASTRUCTURE: Rebuilding our crumbling and outdated infrastructure is critical. Not only will this create thousands of long term good-paying union jobs, but it is also an investment in our future. This is especially true in rural areas. Broadband and cell service is vital for rural communities to become sustainable and stable. The same is true with the transportation infrastructure, such as roads, bridges and rail.
A LIVABLE WAGE: Fighting for a livable wage is not a radical idea, it is a rational economic principle that is critical to a sustainable and stable economy. The fallacy that businesses will struggle is simply not true, if done the right way. By approaching this goal in such a way where huge corporations can no longer have society subsidize their employees, we can see growth in small businesses, family farms and strong flourishing local economies. With a livable wage in place, we will see a stronger more stable economy than we have ever seen before. Other benefits will be:
Small business growth
Decreased government spending
Fewer people on social programs
Lower tax rates for almost everyone
Social security viability
Increased disposable income
SMALL BUSINESSES: Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the strength of our communities. This is why small businesses that pay their employees a livable wage should be rewarded for their contributions to their communities. We need to encourage entrepreneurship and ensure small businesses can compete in the global economy. This requires ending corporate welfare, and encouraging and providing the tax incentives and credits that typically goes to larger corporations to these community-based businesses.
UNIONS: Unions have helped shape this country and created the strongest middle-class we have ever known when they were at their greatest membership. Unfortunately, there has been an attack on unions over the years which has decreased their enrollment and led to the weakening of the middle-class of America, to possibly the weakest it has ever been. The resurgence of the American middle-class is going to be hand in hand with the growth of unions.
LOCAL FARMING: The role of local farming is going to play an ever-increasing role in the economy of tomorrow, especially in rural communities around the country. Clean food, sustainable agriculture, and locally grown as well as farm-to-table, restaurant and school are key elements to our food sources of the future. We need to be doing more to get behind our local farmers, food co-ops, local food hubs and supporting stable organic agriculture.
