Joe Biden announces VP pick, Kamala Harris. The Democratic Congressional Nominee for Michigan's First District, Dana Ferguson, weighs in.
WASHINGTON, DC - It's an exciting day for the country. We have a Democratic ticket that bridges generations, gender, and race. This is what America is about, the new America, the rebirth of unity. When we're diverse and representational, our government can reflect the best of who we are.
This isn't about identity politics. We can't realize our full potential until everyone has a seat at the table. The executive office will benefit greatly from Kamala Harris, whose fortitude, leadership has been shaped by her experiences as a woman and a person of color.
Kamala Harris entered the Democratic 2020 race for US president with a tribute to a woman who broke political barriers decades earlier. Shirley Chisholm was the first woman of color to seek the nomination for president in a major political party in 1972, and Harris continues her prolific legacy.
The Biden administration will be richly diverse and qualified.
I'm optimistic about today's announcement and looking forward to working with both future President Joe Biden and future Vice President Kamala Harris.
Congratulations, Senator Harris. I'm looking forward to working with this new administration.
