MDP Environmental Caucus endorses Ferguson for US Congress

The MDP Environmental Caucus endorsement is Ferguson's 115th official endorsement ahead of the Democratic primary on Tues. Aug. 4.

LANSING, Mich. The Michigan Democratic Party (MDP)—Environmental Caucus announced its endorsement Friday of Dana Ferguson for the First Congressional District of Michigan.

Elizabeth Benyi of the MDP-Environmental Caucus notes Ferguson has not only actively campaigned for environmental issues but he has lived an environmental friendly lifestyle.

"The reason Dana was endorsed is that he has demonstrated a long term commitment to the environment and alignment with the values of the MDP-Environmental Caucus," said Benyi.

Benyi says Ferguson believes in the science of Climate Change and the effects of global warming on the State of Michigan such as the devastating floods in the Keweenaw Peninsula and the 500 year flood in Midland and would work with experts towards a healthier planet.

"Our campaign is very excited about this endorsement," said Ferguson. "I have been pushing a bold vision for environmental causes since the beginning of this movement. It's encouraging to know environmentalists agree - this is one of the greatest issues facing Northern Michigan."

The Ferguson campaign recently took an issue poll and found that over 90% of respondents said "Climate Change" was one of their top three issues. (

"We need 100% renewable energy by 2030, which will create thousands of good paying union jobs in Northern Michigan, rejoin the Paris Accords, fight pipelines through waterways and stand with our Indigenous Water Protectors in planning for our future," said Ferguson. "I'm honored to join the Environmental Caucus in that fight."

The Caucus echoed the candidate's enthusiasm for preserving resources.

"Dana Ferguson is a third generation of the Upper Peninsula and has actively engaged with environmental groups and conferences at Northern Michigan University," said Benyi. "He understands the importance of green energy and the long lasting jobs that the green energy industry would bring to northern Michigan and the UP. He is committed to preserving the beautiful resources of Michigan for future generations."

The MDP-Environmental encourages voters to cast their ballots for Ferguson. "If the environment is a concern for you, Dana would be a great person to represent your views," said Benyi.
