NEGAUNEE, Mich. — Michigan State Rep. Brian Elder (D, Bay City) has endorsed Dana Ferguson for Congress in Michigan’s 1st District Democratic primary.
"I'm proud to endorse Dana Ferguson” said Elder. “Dana is just the type of person we need to represent rural Michigan. He's a father, a husband, and a lifelong resident of our state."
Elder, who is finishing his second term in the State Legislature and running for his third and final term said Dana understands the hardships and the struggles people in rural Michigan go through because he's gone through them himself.
"We need leaders now more than ever who truly understand the constituents they seek to serve," said Elder. "Dana's background in economics and the trades makes him a unique candidate, one who can look forward and who has a true vision for rural Michigan. I'm proud to help Dana Ferguson #TakeItHome."
Brian Elder hails from a union family. He is the first of his family to attend college, completing his Juris Doctorate with honors from UCLA. Elder has been a practicing attorney in the state of Michigan since 1998.
“I’m deeply proud and honored to have the endorsement of State Representative Brian Elder,” said Dana Ferguson. “Brian is one of those people you meet and instantly trust, respect, and admire. His work with unions is known throughout the state. Everywhere you go, his reputation precedes him."
Dana Ferguson is a third-generation resident of Michigan’s 1st Congressional District. He lives in Negaunee with his wife Kristi and their children.
Ferguson worked his way through college at Northern Michigan University as a member of the Michigan Laborers Union and obtained a bachelor's degree in Economics and a master's in Public Administration. He was a member of the Michigan Carpenters and Millwrights Union, by which he has also been endorsed.
"I’m thankful to have [Elder] on our team," said Ferguson. "He is a friend and advisor. With his help, we will #TakeItHome for rural residents in this beloved district."
Ferguson is vying for the Democratic nomination in the primary election on August 5. The 1st Congressional District includes the Northern Lower Peninsula and the Upper Peninsula currently represented by Jack Bergman.
